The Broncos are bringing in quarterback Ian Book, a former Saints and Sean Payton fourth-round pick, for a veteran try out.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that former third-round pick Desmond Ridder would participate in the Broncos’ rookie minicamp as a veteran tryout. However, he reportedly backed out due to a scheduling conflict and has replaced him with former Saints fourth-round pick, quarterback Ian Book.
Book was a fourth-round pick by the Saints back in 2021, Payton’s last season with the team, and now will reunite with him in Denver at least for this weekend during their rookie minicamp.
With QB Desmond Ridder backing out of his vet tryout, Broncos are bringing in former Notre Dame/Saints QB Ian Book for vet tryout during rookie minicamp.
Sean Payton selected Book in 4th round of 2021 draft for NO.
Book with Chiefs early and Eagles late last year. Not bad.— MikeKlis9NEWS (@mikeklis9news) May 9, 2025
Unfortunately for Book, the Saints would end up waiving him just one year later during their final cuts leading up to the 2022 NFL season. He would be claimed by the Eagles, but once again, be waived a year later. He would have short stints with the Patriots and Chiefs before reuniting with the Eagles once again late last season. Book would land on the Eagles roster/practice squad and earn himself a Super Bowl ring as the Eagles dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
He has appeared in just one game during his career, which was also his only start in the league that came during his rookie season. In that game, he would go 12 for 20 for 135 yards with 2 interceptions and 8 sacks. So, it was a rough start for the former Notre Dame quarterback.
It is unlikely that Book ends up on the Broncos roster after this tryout out considering the Broncos seem set at quarterback. Bo Nix is the established starter, while veteran Jarrett Stidham is the veteran backup, and recently signed former Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger is the third-string quarterback. However, a good showing could keep him on a short list of players the Broncos may look to bring in if they need to add to their quarterback room moving forward.
The Broncos rookie minicamp starts today so we should have updates on how everything has went, some rookie numbers, and possibly some quotes from head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos rookies.
