The veteran quarterback will try out for the Broncos this weekend during their rookie minicamp
According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, veteran quarterback Desmond Ridder will get a veteran tryout with the Broncos this weekend during their rookie minicamp.
Biggest name perhaps at Broncos rookie minicamp this weekend:
QB Desmond Ridder is getting a vet tryout with Broncos, per source. Former Univ. of Cincinnati star was Atlanta Falcons’ 3rd-rd draft pick in 2022. Started 13 games in 2023. With Cardinals and Raiders last year.— MikeKlis9NEWS (@mikeklis9news) May 6, 2025
Ridder was a third-round pick for the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 and has had stints with the Cardinals and Raiders in recent years as a backup quarterback. During his career, he has appeared in 25 games, which included 18 starts and totaled 4,002 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, 14 interceptions while completing 63.6% of his passes. He also rushed the ball 78 times for 293 yards and 5 touchdowns during his career. While he is not a starting-caliber quarterback in the NFL, he does come with starting experience and could be a valuable piece to a quarterback room.
With that said, the Broncos already have three quarterbacks on their roster. Bo Nix, who had a breakout 2024 rookie season, is the established starter and figures to get the majority of the reps during the offseason/training camp practices. The team re-signed veteran quarterback Jarrett Stidham to serve as the backup quarterback. He is a veteran player who has earned the trust of head coach Sean Payton and knows the system well. They also signed former Colts backup Sam Ehlinger during free agency to serve as their third-string quarterback. We did not see them draft or sign an undrafted free agent quarterback, so the Broncos seem content with these quarterbacks.
Ridder is more accomplished than Ehlinger, but the Broncos decided to sign him over Ridder, who still remains a free agent. He does have a chance to impress the Broncos coaches during this try out but likely faces long odds of cracking their 90-man roster.
