Report: Courtland Sutton did not report for voluntary workouts on Monday

This might be nothing, but wide receiver Courtland Sutton did not report for voluntary workouts with the Denver Broncos this week.

Teams have begun their voluntary workouts this week and the Denver Broncos had one very important player not reporting in wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Sutton very publicly expressed displeasure over the changes the team made ahead of free agency this year, so there will be speculation about his absence from these voluntary workouts. Sutton also isn’t the only star player a team will be missing from these voluntary workouts. The Dallas Cowboys had both CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons fail to report to voluntary workouts, while the Minnesota Vikings are missing Justin Jefferson as well.

According to Tom Pelissero, Sutton is looking for a new contract. He has just $2 million in guaranteed money left on his original deal and he could be looking to renegotiate for an extension. He is certainly worth an extension given his big-play ability despite so few opportunities with Russell Wilson at quarterback.

This news comes just a day after the Philadelphia Eagles gave DeVonta Smith a huge three-year, $75 million contract extension with over $50 million guarantees. At 28, Sutton is at a prime age for that next big extension. If Denver is unwilling to negotiate they could opt to trade him ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft or they could stand firm on his current deal and wait for him to make a decision to either play or sit the season. The latter option would be ugly indeed.
