The Denver Broncos have not shown any interest in trading for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold this offseason, according to KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck. The Broncos do not believe Darnold would be enough of an upgrade over Drew Lock to make it worth paying New York’s asking price, which is believed to be a second- or third-round pick.
Darnold’s trade value seems to be dropping, so it’s possible that Denver’s position could change if the Jets lower their asking price.
The Jets own the second overall pick in the NFL draft and they are expected to select a QB, perhaps BYU’s Zach Wilson or Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
Renck’s reporting appears to align with James Palmer’s reporting on NFL Network this offseason. Palmer has said the Broncos are not interested in trading assets for a QB if he’s not a “drastic” improvement over Lock.
Denver is believed to be in the QB market, but the team has been selective in its search. The Broncos were not interested in Andy Dalton, did not make an offer to Mitchell Trubisky and had little interest in Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Denver did try to trade for Matthew Stafford but the Broncos weren’t able to work out a deal with the Detroit Lions, who traded the QB to the Los Angeles Rams. Drafting a QB might also be in play for Denver.
