Priority No. 1 for George Paton and the Broncos? Re-sign Justin Simmons and Shelby Harris

Whatever path Paton and the Broncos choose to take in 2021, it needs to start by bringing both players back.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

We’re in that time of year when we all play general manager.

Now that the Denver Broncos have a new one in George Paton, it’s a little more fun. I may suck at math, but I’m able to use a calculator and try to work the salary cap.

I have no idea what moves Paton will make in NFL free agency in his first offseason a general manager. I have no idea who he’ll target or how he wants his team to look.

But the first two moves are no brainers.

Re-sign Justin Simmons and Shelby Harris.

Simmons is a Pat Bowlen Bronco and one you do whatever it takes to keep. What he brings on the field and off is invaluable. Same goes for Harris.

These are the players you build a franchise around, and ones I hope Paton re-signs sooner than later.

As we inch closer to free agency, we may get a sense of what direction Paton and the Broncos will go. Although it sounds like he likes to keep things close to his vest, so we may not.

Whatever path Paton and Denver go down in 2021, it has to start with re-signing Simmons and Harris.
