POLL: Should the NFL change its overtime rules?

January 27, 2022 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

The NFL’s overtime rules have come under criticism once again after the Buffalo Bills’ offense did not get a drive in overtime of last week’s divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball and under NFL rules, their touchdown served as a game-clinching score. A Chiefs field goal would have given the Bills a chance with the ball, but a touchdown wins the game. That scenario has led to many calls for the league to change its overtime rules.

There are multiple ways the NFL could change the OT setup. One possible scenario would be for each offense to get one drive and if the game is still tied after those drives, the game switches to sudden death (next score wins). But, again, that could lead to an offense not getting a chance to match a score if they lose the coin toss and don’t get the ball first.

Another possible scenario would be a college-style OT setup that would allow teams to play until a score isn’t matched, playing on a shortened field. One way or another, many fans would like to see a change.

What do you think, Denver Broncos fans? Should the NFL change its overtime rules? Let us know by voting in the poll below!
