After John Elway stepped down from his general manager position on Monday, the Denver Broncos started their search for a new GM. Elway will remain with the team as the president of football operations and he will be part of the hiring process for the next GM.
Denver has been linked to Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive John Spytek, San Francisco 49ers executive Adam Peters and Chicago Bears executive Champ Kelly — the team hopes to bring in a new GM quickly.
One other name to consider is former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. In 2017, Manning told NBC’s Peter King that he would be interested in “an executive role of some sort” if the right opportunity became available.
Unfortunately for Broncos fans, Manning might not view Denver’s opening as the right opportunity. Manning is not among the GM candidates that have reached out to Elway, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.
Manning might be interested in owning a team, but he would need to be part of an ownership group given the value of NFL franchises. If the Broncos are sold, perhaps Manning would be interested in that opportunity?
