Media members presented cases for 15 finalists for the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame class on Tuesday and former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning was represented by Mike Chappell, who has been covering the Indianapolis Colts since 1984.
Chappell’s pitch didn’t last long.
“I’ll make it brief because my Wi-Fi’s screwing up,” Chappell said on the Zoom call. “I’ll just say: ‘Peyton Manning.’ I would drop my laptop but I’m not going to do that, so just pretend that you see me dropping the mic. End of discussion.”
Manning played in the NFL from 1998-2015, earning NFL MVP honors five times, a league record. Manning helped the Colts reach two Super Bowls, winning one of them. He then finished his career with the Denver Broncos and went to two more Super Bowls, winning a second title.
Manning retired from the NFL in 2016 after winning Super Bowl 50 with 71,940 passing yards and 539 passing touchdowns on his resume.
