Well, it sounds like Peyton Manning leaked which quarterback prospect is high on the Denver Broncos’ wish list.
During an appearance on 104.3 The Fan, the Hall of Famer said the Broncos are “very interested” in Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Manning also said that McCarthy would want to play for Broncos head coach Sean Payton. That makes sense considering the latter is known for getting the best out of his quarterbacks.
While at the NFL’s annual meeting, Payton revealed that Denver had a private workout with McCarthy.
“I wasn’t at J.J.’s pro day, but we had a private (workout with him) the next day where we sent him a bunch of information, spent four or five hours with him, just made him throw all over again,” Payton said, via 9NEWS. “I think it’s all part of the process. I think it can lead to a more efficient and effective decision.”
McCarthy had 6,226 passing yards, 632 rushing yards and 59 total touchdowns during his three-year run at Michigan. He capped off his college career with a national championship.
Although we’re not sure where McCarthy will end up in the NFL, he’s expected to be a top-10 pick in Thursday’s draft.
If the Broncos want to draft McCarthy, they’ll probably have to trade up. They currently own the 12th overall pick.
