Peyton Manning’s former team, the Denver Broncos, made a splash earlier this week by acquiring Zach Wilson in a trade with the New York Jets.
During an appearance on Denver Sports this week, Manning revealed that he reached out to Wilson after the trade was announced.
“I’ve never met Zach, but I got his number [Monday] from the Broncos and reached out to him and welcomed him to Denver and was excited with this new chapter,” Manning said, via the New York Post.
Manning believes the change of scenery will be beneficial to Wilson, especially since he wont have to deal with a revolving door at offensive coordinator.
“I don’t know how many coordinators he had in the time he was there, but it was at least two, it might have been three. So, as you know, for a young quarterback, the best way to really I think screw a young quarterback up is to change coordinators on him every single year, and it drives me crazy.”
Wilson, the No. 2 pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, finished his time in New York with 6,293 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
Even though Wilson hasn’t show much promise, he’ll get the chance to redeem himself in the Mile High City. It’ll certainly help that he’ll have an elite play-caller leading the way in Sean Payton.
