Peyton Manning comments on Broncos' ownership situation

July 16, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

The Denver Broncos might be moving toward a sale, and there’s been plenty of speculation about who might buy the team if the franchise is put up for sale.

During a video press conference about his upcoming Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement, former quarterback Peyton Manning was asked about the team’s ownership situation. The two-time Super Bowl champion gave a diplomatic answer, as usual.

“Certainly living in Denver, I’m very much a Broncos ambassador, fan, season-ticket holder,’’ Manning said, via KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. “Been to every game the past 5 years since I retired that fans were allowed to go to, so I’m certainly interested in what’s going to happen as anybody because I care about it. Just like I care about the Indianapolis Colts, the University of Tennessee, you name it.”

Manning couldn’t afford to buy the team himself, but he could be part of an ownership group — perhaps the face of an ownership group — if such a scenario becomes a possibility. Manning gave a noncommittal answer about potentially joining the team, but he didn’t rule out the possibility, either.

“As I’ve told you before, I’ve kind of gone on a year-to-year basis in this second chapter,” Manning said. “I’m going to try to do this, this year. I don’t really go past that very much because you try different things and maybe you like it, maybe you don’t …. But obviously I’m interested in what’s going to happen. I haven’t said ‘no’ to anything officially forever.

“I’ve just said ‘no’ to some things each year. The next year maybe things change. So who knows what will happen in that but it’s going to be a part of my life forever in my opinion.”

Manning seemly tried to indicated that even if he doesn’t join an ownership group, he will still remain closely connected to the team. Manning helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season and then remained in Colorado after retiring from the NFL.

“Look, being part of the game is important to me,” Manning said. “I’ve found different ways to be involved with it. Doing these things for ESPN, the Peyton’s Places, the history of the game, that’s been a blast. Getting to watch film with Joe Namath and Raymond Berry, I mean, that’s a dream come true for a football junkie like me. But I’ll always be a part of the Colts and Broncos’ organizations in some way.”
