Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller is clearly a big fan of cornerback Patrick Surtain II, the team’s first-round draft pick.
“This Patrick Surtain II, this ‘PS2’ guy, he’s the real deal,” Miller said on May 24. “There are a couple times where I look over my shoulder just to see who’s out there at receiver, left and right checking out the formation, and I see this guy standing out there. I’m like, ‘Bro, this guy is taller than me. Is he supposed to be inside? He’s supposed to be rushing. This guy is supposed to be rushing.’ He’s the real deal and he’s a specimen. He has great feet.”
Surtain is 6-2, 208 pounds and he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds at Alabama’s pro day. It’s easy to see why Miller’s impressed.
“I’m excited to see what he can be able to do versus all these receivers that we have in our division and all these receivers throughout the league that we’ve got to play [and] have to match up with,” Miller said. “The more DBs that we have, the better we’ll be. Definitely stacked in this room.”
After signing two cornerbacks in free agency and drafting Surtain, Denver’s cornerback room is certainly “stacked.” Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby are expected to start on the outside, and Surtain will likely compete and rotate with Bryce Callahan for CB3 duties. Michael Ojemudia is also returning to add even more depth at cornerback.
