Peyton Watson scored a team-high 30 points and connected on 6-of-7 from 3-point range and Jamal Murray added 22 points and a career-high 17 assists as the Denver Nuggets picked up a massive road win without Nikola Jokic and took down the Boston Celtics 114-100.
The Nuggets shot 20-44 from 3-point range and managed to overcome 33 points from Jaylen Brown.
Here’s what stood out from the game.
Peyton Watson’s confidence is growing
Watson has broken out since entering the starting lineup and his offensive game is clearly on another level compared to last season. His current strong scoring run carried into the 1st half tonight in Boston where Watson poured in 16 points in the 1st half.
He also went a perfect 4-4 from 3-point range and 6-7 from the floor overall to go with 1 block. Watson did turn it over three times, which is an area of his game he still needs to work on.
3-point shootout
The Nuggets and Celtics combined for twenty (20!) made 3s in the 1st half. Denver shot 48%. Boston shot 45%. It was another strong shooting half from a Nuggets team that leads in the NBA in 3-point percentage.
DaRon Holmes looks like he’s really going to help in that department this season. Holmes went 2-2 in the 1st half tonight. He’s 6-14 overall in just a few minutes so far. Look for Holmes to play more and more with Nikola Jokic and Jonas Valanciunas out for the time being.
