Zach Wilson is getting a fresh start in the NFL. The former BYU star was traded from the New York Jets to Denver Broncos on Monday.
Things did not go well in New York for the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson’s three seasons with the Jets featured plenty of ugly moments on the field.
Apparently, Jim McMahon did not see any of them. Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette reached out to McMahon, himself a BYU alum, to see if he was familiar with Wilson’s game.
McMahon told Tomasson he’s never watched Wilson play.
“Legendary QB and BYU alum Jim McMahon has said before he doesn’t pay that much attention to football anymore,” Tomasson wrote on X/Twitter Monday. “Nevertheless, I did text him for a hopeful comment on BYU alum Zach Wilson, now with #Broncos. His response: ‘I know nothing about Wilson. I’ve never seen him play.'”
McMahon’s apparent response drew snickers from NFL fans on social media.
“The only difference between Jim McMahon and the Jets front office ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft is honesty,” a Utah fan joked.
“Living the good life never having to watch Zach Wilson play,” said a Giants fan.
“The lead up here is brilliant,” a third person added.
“Ignorance is bliss,” said someone else.
“What all Jets’ fans wish they could say…” chimed in a Bengals fan.
“I envy Jim for that,” a Seahawks fan said.
Now with Denver, Wilson joins a quarterback room that also includes Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci.
The Broncos are said to be in the market for a quarterback in this year’s draft as well, but would likely need to trade up in order to get one of the top prospects in the first round.
