Since the days of Trindon Holliday, say nine years ago, the Denver Broncos have been perpetually looking for the long-term answer to their return specialist role. Enter: WR Montrell Washington, one of three of the Broncos’ fifth-round draft picks.
Washington, a receiver by trade, is a Day 3 pick, so his best path to a Week 1 roster spot on the Broncos is excelling at special teams. Good thing for the Broncos, Washington understands the assignment. General manager George Paton said before the draft that he’d address the third phase of football (special teams) and Washington is his man for the return specialist role.
“I’m very versatile I have to say, and my return skills, I think, are pretty good,” Washington said after being picked by the Broncos. “I’m just trying to come in and do my job as a return man and flip the field to be honest with you.”
Washington went on to say he models his game after Devin Hester.
“I watch all of the old Devin Hester returns. Punt returns, kick returns — everything Devin Hester I watch for sure. [And] Tyreek [Hill], guys like that.”
Sounds good to Broncos Country. Washington looks to shine during the preseason. But you can check out his highlights below, and his bio here.
