After being charged with DUI last October, Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon is expected to receive a three-game suspension from the NFL. The league won’t hand down that suspension until after Gordon’s legal process has completed.
Gordon is scheduled to have a (virtual) court appearance on Thursday, Jan. 14. After that trial, the running back will likely face discipline.
Broncos safety Kareem Jackson was suspended by the NFL one day after his DUI court appearance last year. If the league acts that quickly with Gordon, the running back’s suspension could be announced as early as Friday.
Gordon will be allowed to participate in offseason practices and preseason leading up to the regular season, when his suspension will begin. We don’t know Denver’s 2021 schedule yet but we do know the team’s opponents.
Gordon rushed 215 times for 986 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He also caught 32 receptions for 158 receiving yards and another score.
