Lock learning lessons from Teddy

The backup quarterback noted that the starter has been a great mentor/teacher.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

There will be a lot of critiquing, a lot of criticizing and a lot of defending over the 23-7 loss to the Ravens yesterday. And I’ll save that for later.

But one quote from Drew Lock jumped out at me last night that put a smile on my face despite the beatdown.

Lock, thrown into the game after Bridgewater suffered a concussion and the likely starter for at least another week, noted what he has been learning from the guy who replaced him.

“His biggest thing with me has been working on footwork stuff. He’ll stay after practice. He’ll put me and ‘Ryp’ (QB Brett Rypien) through footwork drills, and I really appreciate him doing that. It means a lot. It’s not like we’re out there for five or 10 minutes. We’re out there for 20, 30 minutes at a time. Then when we go in there on Tuesdays, we’re all sitting together and me and Brett are all open ears. What does Teddy think about this defense? What is he seeing? How does he see it? He’s been really important to me the last couple of weeks, and I appreciate everything he’s done for me because I know being the starting quarterback of this team is a heavy job, you have a lot to focus on, but he takes a little time each week to try to help me out and help Ryp out. I think we both appreciate that.”

That kind of behind-the-scenes work by both quarterbacks (even all three) really shows how much this locker room needed Bridgewater. He’s a team builder, and whatever this season turns out to be, the team will have become a better unit in large part because of his presence.

Now you can start critiquing…
