Kareem Jackson’s efforts to recruit Deshaun Watson to the Denver Broncos appear to be going well. Jackson, who was a teammate of Watson’s for two seasons with the Houston Texans, has talked to the disgruntled quarterback about his trade status this offseason.
“I had a couple of conversations with him,” Jackson said in a recent interview with TMZ Sports. “Just with him saying that Denver is a place that he’s interested in landing.”
Watson has asked for a trade but the Texans have said they have no interest in trading him. If the three-time Pro Bowler decides to holdout, Watson could force Houston’s hand.
Jackson believes Watson could quickly turn his next team into playoff contenders.
“I mean, if Deshaun Watson goes anywhere, they are automatically contenders,” Jackson said. “If he has pieces around him, he’s an automatic contender.”
With the Broncos, the pieces around Watson would include wide receivers Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler, tight ends Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam and running backs Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay (assuming Patrick and Lindsay are tendered).
With Watson at quarterback, that offense would be tough to stop.
