Joe Flacco's little brother is competing with Paxton Lynch for a CFL roster spot

July 27, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Joe Flacco’s little brother, Tom, is competing for a backup quarterback role with the Saskatchewan Roughriders this summer.

The Riders might sound familiar to Denver Broncos fans. That’s because former Denver first-round draft pick Paxton Lynch is also competing for a roster spot in Saskatchewan.

Cody Fajardo is expected to start for the Riders, according to the Regina Leader-Posts‘ Murray McCormick, and Isaac Harker seems to be the front-runner for the No. 2 spot. So Flacco and Lynch seem to be competing with Mason Fine for third-string duties.

Tom Flacco was a two-year starter at Towson and he was not selected in the 2020 NFL draft. His older brother, Joe, won Super Bowl XLVII with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and played for the Broncos in 2019. The elder Flacco is now a backup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lynch spent two years in Denver before brief stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s now attempting to extend his football career in Canada, but he might have to beat out Flacco to do so.
