New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has quickly started building his coaching staff, and he poached a member of the Denver Broncos staff.
Saleh hired Broncos offensive quality control coach Rob Calabrese to serve as the Jets’ new pass game specialist, according to NFL Network’s Michael Silver. Calabrese spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons in Denver.
Calabrese almost made history as a player-coach in Week 12 when all of the Broncos’ quarterbacks were ruled ineligible due to COVID-19 protocols. Denver wanted to sign Calabrese as a QB but league rules wouldn’t allow it. He played as a receiver and quarterback at UCF from 2008-2012.
New York also hired Greg Knapp as its QBs coach, according to Silver. Knapp served in that same role with the Broncos from 2013-2016.
Selah was a defensive intern with the Houston Texans in 2005 when Vic Fangio served as their defensive coordinator. Another member of Fangio’s coaching tree, ex-outside linebackers coach Brandon Staley, has been hired by the Los Angeles Chargers as their new head coach.
