Good Morning Broncos Country!

Good Morning, Broncos Country!

It was reported on Wednesday that veteran running back J.K. Dobbins was flying into Denver to have dinner with the Broncos coach before visiting their facility. That visit came and went, and it appears that the team let Dobbins leave without a contract. ‘

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, Dobbins had a nice visit with the team, but no signing is currently imminent. Klis does add that the veteran running back “remains on the Broncos’ radar”.

Broncos and JK Dobbins had a nice visit. He was in Broncos building today. Per source, no signing imminent but vet RB remains on Broncos radar.

Head Coach Sean Payton met with the media after the Broncos’ OTA practice on Thursday and confirmed that Dobbins was indeed visiting the team. He told reporters that Dobbins should be in the building soon, and they’ll have a chance to visit with him and see where it goes after that.

When asked what Dobbins would bring to the Broncos, Payton called Dobbins a good football player.

“Just another good football player that we’ve seen first-hand [that] I’ve seen for a while. Just the importance of that position group. We really like the group right now we’re working with. It’s just another opportunity to possibly bring in another good football player to help us win.”

While Dobbins left without signing, it does not close the door for him to sign with the Broncos. As Klis noted, he remains on their radar, and the two sides still make a lot of sense for each other. He likely had a physical during his visit, and both sides are probably not in a rush to finalize anything right now. The Broncos are nearing the end of their OTA practices and will hold a mandatory minicamp next week, followed by a month and a half break before the start of training camp. So, there’s no real rush to get Dobbins signed as soon as possible.

It sounds like the meeting went well, Payton called Dobbins a good football player, and the fit continues to make a lot of sense for both parties. So, while he did leave without a deal signed, I still think there’s a good chance that he’ll sign with the Broncos before the start of training camp.
