When NFL players get married these days, it’s usually in the offseason so it doesn’t conflict with their football schedule. That wasn’t the case when former Denver Broncos quarterback Craig Morton got married in 1977.
Morton’s wedding rehearsal was scheduled for Nov. 6, the same day the Broncos were scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Morton started the game against Pittsburgh and helped Denver build a 21-point lead before leaving in the fourth quarter to catch a flight to Dallas for his wedding rehearsal.
The Broncos went on beat the Steelers 21-7 and Morton returned to Denver after his wedding in Texas. The Broncos finished the 1977 season with a 12-2 record and went all the way to Super Bowl XII, only to fall to the New York Giants 27-10.
Morton went on to play four more seasons in Denver before retiring from the NFL following the 1982 season.
