How much salary cap space will the Broncos have in 2021?

January 21, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

The Denver Broncos are rolling over $17,788,121 of unused 2020 salary cap space to add to their 2021 total, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. The NFL still has to audit each team’s rollover totals so the Broncos’ total is subject to change, but it likely won’t change much.

Last year, Denver rolled over $14.78 million in unused cap.

The Broncos’ rollover was the seventh-highest total in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns rolled over the most cap space ($30,366,604) and the Baltimore Ravens rolled over the last cap space ($586,822).

Denver kicker Brandon McManus, the team’s NFLPA rep, has guesstimated the league’s salary cap will be $188 million in 2021. That plus the Broncos’ rollover from 2020 would give Denver a salary cap of $205,788,121.

The Broncos currently have $185,256,018 invested in 2021 contracts, according to OverTheCap.com. After subtracting those contracts, Denver would have 20,532,103 in 2021 salary cap space. If you only include the Broncos’ top 51 contracts, the cap space increases to $26,984,221. Only the top 51 contracts count against a team’s cap during the offseason.

Denver could create additional net salary cap space by parting ways with players including outside linebacker Von Miller ($18 million), defensive lineman Jurrell Casey ($11,874,750) and cornerback A.J. Bouye ($13,375,000). The Broncos will likely try to restructure Miller’s contract.
