Broncos got better in the 2025 draft.
If you’re a fan of the NFL draft, the 2025 edition had everything and more. Not only did the Denver Broncos add to positions of need, there were trades-up and back, and there was delicious draft drama in the Shadeur Sanders saga. This was an historic draft with something for everyone.
In a departure from recent history, the Denver Broncos again enjoyed participating in the 1st round, selecting CB Jahdae Barron. Although few expected Barron to be there that late into night one, fewer in Broncos Country forecasted Denver’s selection at corner. Denver spent picks in the next two rounds on offense gobbling up RB RJ Harvey and WR Pat Bryant. They then traded back into the 3rd round, snagging DE Sai’vion Jones. Sunday’s selections included EDGE Que Robinson, P Jeremy Crawshaw, and TE project Caleb Lohner. Seven selections in total for the Broncos in 2025. Here’s hoping each contributes to Broncos success for years to come.
For those that like all the draft maneuvering, there was plenty to love. On Friday night, the Broncos traded back twice acquiring an extra 4th round pick. Then at the end of the 3rd round, the Broncos traded back into Friday’s night’s action and selected Sai’vion Jones. In the 6th round on Saturday, the Broncos again traded back and acquired a 7th round pick in the process. While we won’t know if they were successful for a few seasons, Broncos Country has to appreciate management wringing as much value out of this draft as they could.
Then there was the drama of Shadeur Sanders’ fall. Life outside of daddy ball hits hard, but none harder than when Sanders plummeted down draft boards around the league. Personality matters. Work ethic matters. Collegiate success matters. It turns out that all the hooey of custom draft rooms, retired jersey numbers, an obscenely large entourage, and whole host of other repellant nonsense scares teams away. Humility, apparently, still goes a long way.
As the talent the Broncos drafted shakes out into a whole host of careers, this draft may be viewed as Sean Payton’s most important in the post-Russell Wilson era. The success of 2024’s selections are trending the right direction. If Denver can string together a few successful drafts, only good things will come to the Broncos. In the meantime, we can look back at a action packed and dramatic draft weekend. Training camp can’t come soon enough.
