Horse Tracks: Every season starts at the same point

The Denver Broncos know what work needs to be done for them to have a successful season

One of my favorite things about the Sean Payton era to date with the Denver Broncos is how he keeps them grounded in reality.

We got a taste of that when Mike McGlinchey was asked whether or not this feels like a championship-level team. I love how he started his answer: “ I mean, we haven’t even practiced yet…”

The Broncos know every year they start 0-0 just like every other team. Last season is over and done with. Now you have another opportunity to earn a shot at the postseason.

Questions about how good the team is may sound interesting to the media, but the simple reality is that no one knows what caliber this team is until it gets tested.

One thing that drove me nuts in the recent losing seasons leading up to 2024 was how there were many players constantly talking big about how good the team was when they had yet to post a winning season. I get it that having an optimistic mindset is very helpful, but I honestly think so is being real and holding oneself accountable.

Fans and media talk about the sky being the limit, and that is all good and well. Players knowing and saying they have work to do sets the stage for them to achieve lofty goals.
