Here are Phillip Lindsay's contract details with Texans

March 22, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

In an effort to save money, the Denver Broncos placed an original-round tender worth $2.183 million on running back Phillip Lindsay last week. Had the Broncos used a second-round tender on Lindsay, it would have been worth $3.384 million.

By placing an original-round tender on Lindsay, Denver demonstrated that the team was willing to lose him to another team without receiving any compensation (a second-round tender would have fetched a second-round pick, for example). Clearly, Broncos general manager George Paton didn’t value Lindsay — he opted to save about $1 million over keeping Lindsay.

After Denver agreed to terms on a two-year deal with ex-Minnesota Vikings running back Mike Boone, the Broncos and Lindsay mutually agreed to part ways and Paton rescinded the running back’s tender, making him a free agent.

Lindsay then quickly agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans.

Lindsay’s contract with Houston has a base salary of $2.25 million, a signing bonus of $500,000 and a roster bonus of $343,750. That gives him a 2021 salary cap hit of $3,093,750, according to Spotrac.com.

The Texans will pay Lindsay close to what he would have earned if Denver placed a second-round tender on the 26-year-old running back.
