C.J. Anderson’s coaching journey continues.
The former Denver Broncos running back has been hired as the new head football coach at Benicia High School in California. The news was first reported by Thomas Gase of the Times-Herald.
Anderson grew up in the area and played high school football at Jesse Bethel, one of Benicia’s opponents. He’s also a member of the Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame, so it will be a bit of a homecoming for the former running back.
After two years at a community college, Anderson played two seasons for the University of California and then joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He went on to spend five years in Denver, helping the team win Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season.
After spending time with four other teams, Anderson retired following the 2019 season and transitioned to coaching. He returned to Cal, his alma mater, as an assistant in 2020. Anderson later served as the head coach at Monte Vista High School in 2021, then he coached running backs at Rice in 2022.
Anderson is now back on the sideline and he told Gase he would like to one day return to the college level or jump to coaching in the NFL. For now, though, Anderson is set to coach high school football at Benicia.
