Ex-Broncos DL Joel Heath signs with Lions

February 21, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Two weeks after Denver Broncos general manager George Paton made five cuts, one of those players has landed with a new team.

Former Broncos defensive lineman Joel Heath has signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions. He will officially join the Lions’ 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins next month.

Heath (6-6, 302 pounds) spent the first four years of his career with the Houston Texans, totaling 30 tackles and three sacks in 32 games.

Denver claimed Heath off waivers in December 2019 but he was waived before the start of training camp in July 2020. Heath then opted out of the 2020 season with COVID-19 concerns and was reinstated to the Broncos’ roster on the Reserve/Opt-Out list. He never played a down in Denver.

In addition to Heath, Paton also waived wide receiver Fred Brown, safety Alijah Holder, tight end Jordan Leggett and offensive tackle Darrin Paulo on Feb. 2. More recently, cornerback A.J. Bouye and defensive lineman Kyle Peko were also cut. Peko, like Heath, opted out of the 2020 season.

List

After failing to land Matthew Stafford, Broncos might consider these 10 other QBs
