Earlier this week, ESPN’s Matt Bowen published his list of best team fits for the top 50 NFL free agents this spring (subscription required for link).
For Kansas City Chiefs inside linebacker Nick Bolton, Bowen listed the Denver Broncos as an ideal landing spot.
“Bolton would be a big upgrade for Vance Joseph’s defense in Denver,” Bowen wrote on ESPN.com. “Bolton fits with the Broncos as a downhill thumper against the run — he had 11 tackles for loss last season. In coverage, Bolton lacks elite second-level range, but he has four career interceptions.”
Cody Barton and Justin Strnad are set to become free agents next month. Meanwhile, Alex Singleton will turn 32 next season and he’s coming off a torn ACL. Consequently, linebacker is a top need for Denver.
Bolton (5-11, 237 pounds) is entering his fifth year in the NFL. Set to turn 25 in March, Bolton has 458 career tackles, 17 quarterback hits, 15 pass breakups, five sacks and four interceptions on his resume (57 games).
NFL teams can begin negotiating with pending free agents from other clubs on March 10. NFL free agency will officially begin on March 12.
