Derek Wolfe expects Dre’Mont Jones to ‘step his game up’ in Year 4

August 15, 2022 by Broncos Wire

Recently retired NFL defender Derek Wolfe has high hopes for Dre’Mont Jones.

Wolfe played for the Denver Broncos for eight years from 2012-2019, before finishing his career with the Baltimore Ravens. But in his time with the Broncos, he played his final year with the team alongside Jones. So he knows what Jones can do, and he expects the fourth-year player from Ohio State to step it up in a big way in 2022.

“I liked him his rookie year,” Wolfe said when he returned to the team’s facility last month to retire as a Bronco. “I thought he had the ability. This is the first time I’ve seen him face-to-face in probably two years, and I was like, ‘Oh, you put some weight on. You look good.’ When I say weight, I mean muscle. He looks good. He could already move, and he had the ability. I think he’s going to step his game up, especially in Year 4.”

Wolfe also elaborated why he expected a jump. By year four, according to Wolfe, NFL players begin to come into their own.

“This is when you start seeing guys come into their own. I think he’s going to have it. I think he has what it takes. He’s one of those guys you can look up to, for sure. He knows how to win. He won championships, and he’s been a part of championships before. He knows what he’s doing.”

We will get a chance to watch Jones attempt to live up to Wolfe’s expectation beginning next week when Denver’s starters are expected to make their preseason debuts against the Buffalo Bills.
