The Denver Broncos have unveiled their team captains. Selected through a player-wide election, third-year head Coach Sean Payton announced during his daily press conference on Wednesday, September 3. Quarterback Bo Nix, wide receiver Courtland Sutton, guard Quinn Meinerz, linebacker Alex Singleton, cornerback Pat Surtain II, safety Talanoa Hufanga, tackle DJ Jones, and kicker Will Lutz are your 2025 captains.

Veteran Leadership
Heading into season two with the Broncos, Nix‘s positive trajectory had a lot to do with his selection as team captain. His rookie season last year was more than solid, and the team expects even more growth this year.
Heading into year nine, 2025 will be Sutton‘s fifth consecutive season as team captain. His seniority in the wide receivers’ room makes him an obvious choice annually.
This will be year two for Meinerz as team captain. The fact that his name is rarely mentioned in TV and radio broadcasts is indicative of his performance and attitude.
Tackling machine Singleton, a former captain with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in his career, tallied 177 total tackles, 2 sacks, and 4 passes defended in 2023, his last full season, making him a valuable asset to the Broncos.
The 2024 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is a no-brainer selection. Surtain virtually shrinks the field in half as opposing offenses constantly avoid throwing to the side he’s covering.
First-time captain Hufanga’s dynamic play style and contagious energy have quickly made him a leader in the secondary.
Re-signed by the Broncos this offseason, Jones brings a blue-collar work ethic to the defensive line. His selection as captain was a bit surprising, but it shows his importance to the team.
A captain for the second consecutive year, Lutz’s accuracy, consistency, and reliability in high-leverage moments make him an automatic selection.
Payton Feeling Confident
Sean Payton was more than a little confident when he was quoted as saying, “These captains embody the spirit and determination we value in our team. Their commitment to excellence sets a standard for all players to follow.”
