Later this summer, Denver Broncos coaches will have to pick a favorite between Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater — only one of them can start at quarterback against the New York Giants in Week 1.
The coaches have to choose between the QBs, but Broncos guard Dalton Risner aims to remain impartial. The third-year offensive lineman suggested last month that he treats all of the team’s position battles the same way.
“There’s competition going on everywhere … since the quarterback is the main position, that might be the highlighted one that everyone’s talking about, but there’s competition everywhere,” Risner said on June 7.
“My thing is, we’re all teammates trying to be the best team possible. I never pick sides. I’m not going to hangout with one more than the other. I’m going to respect both, get to know both, try to support both for every position across the team – not only just quarterbacks.”
That’s a smart decision from Risner, one that might help him avoid potentially awkward situations when a starting QB is named in the coming weeks.
