Courtland Sutton's return will be big for Broncos' offense

July 22, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

After missing almost all of the 2020 season with a knee injury, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton will be back in action this fall.

Sutton’s return has been seemingly largely overlooked by members of the national media and even some fans in Denver seem to be forgetting how big of an impact the receiver can have on offense.

“It’s good to see my guy ‘Court’ back,” cornerback Bryce Callahan said on June 1. “Just seeing him back on the field, we all know he is a big impact and can take a lot of teams down field. Getting him back in with the guys is big.”

In 2019, the last year he was healthy, Sutton made the Pro Bowl after catching 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. He’ll now return to an offense that has arguably improved over the last two years.

“It’s good to just have him out there and having him coach up the younger guys,” fellow receiver Jerry Jeudy said of Sutton on June 1. “You learn a lot from ‘Court’ with him being here for three years. You can learn a lot from him when he’s on the field.”

Denver’s offense now features Jeudy, Tim Patrick, KJ Hamler, tight end Noah Fant and running backs Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams. Sutton’s return won’t be merely icing on the cake, though. As the team’s No. 1 receiver, Sutton will have a key role on offense, and he will quickly remind those who have forgotten why he made the Pro Bowl the last time he was on the field.
