Courtland Sutton needs to be a wide receiver target as the fantasy draft season begins to heat up. He finished last season as a top-15 wide receiver and a player we want a piece of in 2025. The significant improvement of Denver quarterback Bo Nix as the season progressed is one of the reasons we are high on Sutton’s 2025 fantasy outlook.
Sutton has been a double-digit point-per-game wide receiver the last three seasons and remains a good bet to outperform his current ADP. However, there are multiple factors as to why we are targeting him in all league formats. Like a broken record, we say the savvy fantasy players are on top of past season results, study the data points, and can spot the potential league winners in the mid to late rounds.
Courtland Sutton Fantasy Outlook: High-End WR2
Fantasy Football Profile: Courtland Sutton
2024 in Review
Last season, Courtland Sutton caught a career-best 81 balls on 135 targets for just under 1,100 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He also posted career-highs in PPR fantasy points per game at 14.1, his best since 2019, and total fantasy points with 240.3. Sutton has posted 18 touchdown receptions in the last two seasons, which ties him with Cee Dee Lamb for sixth among all wide receivers. His 135 targets represented a hefty 23.8% target share, which was right there with Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
As we dove further into his wide receiver metrics, he finished 2024: top-12 in receiving touchdowns, top six in expected receiving touchdowns, and top four in both end-zone and red-zone targets. After Week 5, Sutton averaged 17.82 fantasy points per game. For reference, that per-game average was behind only Chase, Jefferson, and St. Brown.
2025 Projection
Courtland Sutton is projected to score 177 fantasy points on 75 receptions for 984 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
In addition to his projected fantasy output, it is the role that Sutton plays within Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s offense that has us high on him. History tells us the alpha wide receiver role within that passing offense can be a big-time fantasy producer. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix ranked sixth in pass attempts last season, so the volume should be there.
Sutton plays the Mike Thomas role, and people in fantasy circles know how powerful an asset that was. From 2016 to 2019, Thomas averaged 150 targets, 117 catches, and 32 touchdowns. During that same time frame, his finishes were as follows: WR7, WR6, WR6, and WR1.
Coutland Sutton Fantasy Football ADP
Right now, Courtland Sutton’s best ball ranking is WR24 with an overall ADP of 49 on Underdog and 50 on Drafters. That puts him in the late third to fourth round and great value in a tier that includes Davante Adams and DK Metcalf. Look no further than last season, pre-season draft ranked Sutton as the WR45, and he proceeded to smash that ADP with a top-15 finish. Sutton has been a steady fantasy producer at the wide receiver position and increased his fantasy points per game average every year since 2021. We expect more of the same this season, making Sutton an absolute draft target of ours in all formats!
