The Denver Broncos take a 14-0 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs after one quarter of play.
The Kansas City Chiefs won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the second half to bring Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos out to start the game.
The first play out of the gate was a play-action pass to Nate Adkins for a first down, then backed by Jaleel McLaughlin for four yards. Another pass, to Troy Franklin, picked up another first down and the Broncos were rolling past midfield.
A few plays later, a short swing pass outside to Marvin Mims Jr. went for 32-yards and a touchdown to immediately put Denver up 7-0 over the Chiefs

Broncos 7. Chiefs 0.
Denver’s defense forced a quick three-and-out and it looked like the Broncos offense would also be matching that on their second drive, but Nix hit Lil’Jordan Humphrey on a quick slant on third and four for the first down. They’d get into a fourth and one and instead of punting, they called Bo Nix for the quarterback dive and he got it to keep the drive alive.
On the very next play, Bo Nix went deep to Courtland Sutton for a 47-yard gain to set Denver up in the red zone at the Chiefs 13-yard line.

Two plays later Nix fired into the end zone to Sutton who was being double-covered, but Sutton pulled it in for the touchdown.

Broncos 14, Chiefs 0.
The Chiefs next drive got a gifted first down from a rare mistake from Pat Surtain II who committed an 11-yard pass interference on the first play of the drive. They’d get stuffed from there and punt it right back to Denver with three minutes left in the first quarter.
The punt was downed at the 10 yard line putting the Broncos in poor field position for their third drive. That would not deter them as they’d close out the quarter with back-to-back first downs out to the 43-yard line.
