After an offseason that saw former 2019 first-round draft pick Noah Fant shipped to the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos needed to find another big, lanky tight end to compliment Albert Okwuegbunam.
last weekend, with the 80th overall pick in the 2022 draft, the Broncos selected UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich to fill that gap.
Dulcich is comparable to Fant in many ways: physical build (Dulcich stands at 6-4, 243 pounds, while Fant is 6-4 249 pounds), speed (Fant ran a 4.5 40 at the 2019 combine, while Dulcich clocked in at 4.69) and both earned accolades for their on-field accomplishments in their respective conferences.
In 2020, Dulcich led the Pac-12 with 19.9 yards per catch. That year, he caught 26 passes for 517 yards and five touchdowns.
Dulcich believes that he can translate that big-play ability to the NFL.
“I think my speed is definitely elite. You watch the film [and] I’m getting great separation,” Dulcich said recently.
With Denver’s offense severely lacking in the big-play department over the last few years, they are hoping that Dulcich can bring the dynamic back to the offense.
“[M]y background as a receiver helps a lot and the fundamentals I learned from my tight end coach to get away and create that separation was huge,” said Dulcich.
Dulcich joins a 2022 tight end room that includes Albert O, Eric Tomlinson and Shaun Beyer. During the offseason, the Broncos will look to develop Dulcich’s blocking technique (a weakness listed prominently on his 2022 NFL draft profile) and his big-play potential in an offense ripe with possibilities, thanks to quarterback Russell Wilson.
“I am excited to continue to [contribute] at the next level,” he said.
