The Denver Broncos selected Wisconsin cornerback Faion Hicks in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft on Saturday evening (232nd overall).
Hicks (5-10) was the Broncos’ final pick of nine for the team. He joins his college teammate, Wisconsin defensive end Matt Henningsen, in Denver. The CB also joins newly-signed Blessuan Austin as secondary, secondary options for Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.
As a Day 3 pick, Hicks’ best shot to make the final roster before Week 1 is to display duality on special teams. Displaying self-awareness, Hicks knows this, saying, “I’m very comfortable with special teams. That’s something that we harped on at Wisconsin and was really the main reason I got on the field at Wisconsin so anyway the team needs me to contribute, even on special teams, I’m willing to do it.”
Staring down a life-altering opportunity, Hicks says that reuniting with Henningsen is going to be fun, adding, “It’s going to be big-time to have a guy I can lean on, especially a guy like Matt who’s super smart.”
Hicks totaled 28 total tackles, nine pass breakups and a QB hit in his final collegiate season. Check out our bio of Hicks here, and his highlights above.
