Champ Bailey endorses possibility of Broncos trading for Deshaun Watson

February 9, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Deshaun Watson is disgruntled and asked the Houston Texans for a trade, but the team has said publicly they have no interest in trading the star quarterback. That hasn’t stopped speculation about potential trade destinations for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, who played with Watson for two seasons in Houston, recently said the QB would be interested in joining the Broncos. That has only increased buzz about Watson potentially landing in Denver.

In an interview with Nick Ferguson and Cecil Lammey on 104.3 The Fan last week, Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Champ Bailey added his opinion to the conversation.

“It’d be a great move,” Bailey told Ferguson and Lammey. “He’s a proven quarterback, a franchise quarterback. He’ll change a franchise and its trajectory. So, why wouldn’t you entertain that?”

Bailey wasn’t dunking on Drew Lock. He compared the situation to when the Broncos replaced Tim Tebow with Peyton Manning nine years ago.

“I kind of look at the Broncos right now, like it’s almost 2012,” Bailey said. “It’s kind of the same dynamic. You have a young guy that did well and has done some good things, but nothing to really make you feel good about the future. Then you’ve got a guy that can really change the trajectory of your franchise like Watson, yeah you go get a guy like that. Without a doubt.”

Tebow had won a playoff game and he was a fan favorite, but the team couldn’t turn down the chance to add a franchise QB like Manning. Denver might face a similar decision with Lock and Watson this offseason.
