The reserve slot corner will have to fight for a roster spot in a loaded Broncos cornerback room.
After a successful college career at Indiana and Purdue, cornerback Reese Taylor went undrafted during the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he would quickly sign with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent and join their roster. He stayed on the roster throughout the offseason, training camp, and the preseason, but would be among the Chiefs’ cuts during their final cuts. Taylor would clear waivers and sign on to the Chiefs’ practice squad the following day. Unfortunately for Taylor, the Chiefs would release him from their practice squad a day later, and he would remain unsigned until November, when he would sign on to the Broncos’ practice squad.

Taylor would finish out the year with the Broncos and sign a reserve/futures contract with the team in 2024. He would remain on their roster throughout the year but would once again be waived during the Broncos’ final cuts. He would be signed on to their practice squad soon after and remain there throughout the year. This past offseason, Taylor once again signed a reserve/futures contract with the Broncos and now enters training camp with the team fighting for a roster spot.
Due to his lack of size, Taylor profiles as a slot corner, a position the Broncos have a lot of talent at currently. The team drafted former Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round of the April’s 2025 NFL Draft, and he is expected to play inside and outside in the Broncos’ secondary. They also have Ja’Quan McMillian returning to the team, who was their starting slot corner the past two seasons. So, Taylor faces a lot of competition for this role in the Broncos’ secondary.

Broncos CB Reese Taylor’s 2025 Outlook
With the Broncos’ cornerback room loaded, it will be difficult for Taylor to make the 53-man roster. As I said, rookie Jahdae Barron will see time at slot corner, and Ja’Quan McMillian was their starting slot corner the past two seasons. You also have second-year corner Kris Abrams-Draine, who can play inside or outside as well. So, it is going to be difficult for Taylor to make the team.
However, he seems like a strong practice squad candidate. He is someone who was mentioned as a standout player throughout training camp last season and spent all of last season with the Broncos. While he may not make the team, he does give them some slot corner depth on the practice squad if/when injuries occur.
If he wants to make the Broncos’ practice squad, he will need to have himself another good summer. The team is deep at the cornerback position and added multiple undrafted free agents to the room as well. He will be competing with Damarri Mathis, Quinton Newson, Mario Goodrich, Jaden Robinson, and Joshua Pickett for a spot on the Broncos’ practice squad.
If he can show that he can be a valuable backup slot corner once again, I believe he has a good shot at making the Broncos’ practice squad once again this year.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Taylor provides good depth at the slot cornerback position and appears to be a strong practice squad candidate for the Broncos. He had a standout performance last summer with the Broncos and stuck with the team throughout the year, and is once again competing for a roster spot.
He, like all players on the roster bubble and pushing for a spot on the practice squad, needs to stay healthy and be able to contribute on special teams. The Broncos have multiple young corners fighting for a spot or two on the practice squad, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
