Browns Free Agent Could Garner Interest After Latest Social Media Post

April 29, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Nick Chubb Free Agent

The free agent market should heat up following the 2025 NFL Draft, and veteran Nick Chubb is one of the biggest names still available. A second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Georgia product quickly became one of the best pure runners in the league. From 2019 to 2022, the veteran made four Pro Bowls while recording a combined 5,345 yards and 40 touchdowns to go with 99 receptions for 841 yards and two additional scores.

Unfortunately, he suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2023 that limited him to just two games. While he returned to the field for eight games in 2024, he never looked like his old self, finishing the year with just 332 rushing yards on 102 attempts. This lack of production is likely the reason he still doesn’t have a job, but a recent video could lead to a signing. Recently, the free agent posted an impressive workout video, and running back-needy teams could roll the dice on Nick Chubb.

4 Teams That Could Sign Free Agent Nick Chubb After Viral Workout Video

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will be atop any list that involves signing a running back for the foreseeable future, as they have the worst backfield in football. If the season started today, washed-up veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders would battle late-round rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah for the starting job. Running back is not the most important position in football, but you need more talent than this to compete for the starting job. Nick Chubb could start for this team, and the free agent could easily re-establish his value on a one-year deal.

Denver Broncos

Second-round pick RJ Harvey is the future of the Denver Broncos backfield, but this team needs a short-term starter in case the rookie needs time to adjust to the NFL. Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime are nothing more than depth options, and Nick Chubb could be a great low-risk free agent signing for this team. Assuming he’s as healthy as the video suggests, he’s good enough to start and could be an invaluable veteran mentor for the up-and-coming Harvey.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have a small army of unremarkable running backs in Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, and late-round rookie Brashard Smith. While the Chiefs proved they can win with ok production at the running back position, Nick Chubb offers legitimate upside as a free agent. Kansas City hasn’t had a truly dangerous running back since the 2018 season, and Chubb has the potential to be the team’s best running back in years. Seeing as he’ll probably come cheap, it can’t hurt to bring him in and see what happens.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns selected running backs Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that might not stop them from re-signing one of the best players in franchise history. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that the team wants to bring back Nick Chubb as a free agent, although doing so would probably lead to a Jerome Ford trade. The former fifth-round pick outplayed Chubb last year, but he might not provide the veteran leadership that Chubb can bring to the table.
