Broncos WR KJ Hamler talks different styles between Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater

July 25, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater are set to heat up their competition for the starting quarterback job when the Denver Broncos begin training camp this week.

Denver’s staff will have to choose between two contrasting styles when the time arrives to name a starter. Lock is a young, aggressive option. Bridgewater is a veteran, more calculated quarterback.

Last month, Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler spoke about practicing with quarterbacks who utilize different playing styles.

“Teddy is more of a timing thrower and things of that nature,” Hamler said on June 3. “Drew is a gunslinger. Both are doing tremendous and they both are doing great. Getting to pick both of those guy’s brain — from a vet, and Drew is going into his third year and still learning. We’re all still learning. Just to pick Teddy’s brain and pick Drew’s brain is pretty cool. We always get extra throws with both of them after practice just to get the timing right.

“There’s competition everywhere. I’m glad we have both of them on the team and both of them are looking great. I think that’s the best part — everybody competes and keep striving.”

The team’s quarterback competition will likely drag into preseason, and unless one of the QBs falls way behind, a Week 1 starter might not be named until late in preseason.
