Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has the opportunity to accomplish something that could help make the case for him being one of the greatest wide receivers in franchise history.
This season, Sutton has caught 69 receptions for 972 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Sutton only needs 18 more yards to become the first wide receiver for the team to have 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons since Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.
Sutton has reached multiple milestones this season

The wideout whom the Broncos drafted out of SMU with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft has accomplished a lot in this season alone, as he passed Ed McCaffrey for fifth-most receiving yards in team history.
In 110 games played, Sutton became the third-fastest player in team history to surpass 6,000 receiving yards, trailing only Rod Smith and Thomas.
Heading into Denver’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sutton led the NFL with 819 receiving yards on third down since 2024, ahead of George Pickens, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Jameson Williams in this category.
Averaging more than 10 yards per catch and making big plays is a huge advantage that can help Sutton get to 1,000 yards
It shouldn’t be hard for Sutton to reach 1,000 yards in two games, not only because he leads the team in receiving yards, but because he would only need to average nine receiving yards in the Broncos’ final matchups.
Sutton is averaging 14.1 yards per catch this year, which should make fans even more optimistic that he can accomplish such a milestone. Let’s say he’s able to make big plays like he’s known for; he would only need roughly one catch per game to reach 1,000 yards.
With 68 receptions for 25 yards or more in his career, Sutton is among the best Broncos to catch the deep ball, while he is on pace to break the 80 deep ball receptions Thomas recorded during his tenure in Denver.
The Broncos will need Sutton to continue playing well as they close out the regular season and prepare for the postseason
Denver is still sitting atop the AFC and the AFC West with a 12-3 record, despite its most recent 34-20 home loss to the Jaguars. Sutton had six receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown against Jacksonville.
The Broncos will need to win the remainder of their games if they want to remain the first seed in the AFC and in their division. Their next two games will be against division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers.
How Sutton performs for the remainder of the regular season will play a vital role in where the Broncos stand in the playoffs, especially given that one of the two teams on their remaining schedule, Los Angeles, is also an AFC contender.
