Here’s how to watch the Denver Broncos play the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9. Plus other odds and ends.
The Denver Broncos will have their hands full in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys. One team is trending towards contender-status, while the other is trending towards pretender-status. We’re not even halfway through the season, so the latter still has a chance to prove every doubter wrong.
Game Preview
There are so many problems for head coach Vic Fangio and his coaching staff to contend with against the Cowboys. The first is how to slow down their balanced and dynamic offense? The answer to that is likely to limit the chances they get to score points offensively through ball control.
“Yeah, and you have to be able to score points, ultimately,” Fangio said. “We have to play well. We have to play a really good game in all three phases. They’re really good [so] we have to play really well.”
Oh yes, and the whole scoring points thing. The leads to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and what he has planned for the Broncos’ offense on Sunday. I would share some of the things he said this week, but there were a lot of words and little to no substance to them. Hopefully that means he is keeping his plans close to the vest and he’s abandoned the whole notion of “keep grinding” that he had been on throughout the losing streak.
As a fan of a 4-4 team struggling on offense, I’ll take a loss here on the road against a really good football team if we see something worth getting hopeful about from Shurmur’s play calling. That means scoring points and actually sticking to the things that are working during the game against the Cowboys defense.
Here’s how to watch.

Broncos-Cowboys Betting Odds
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Denver Broncos opened a mere seven-point underdog. However, with the trade of Von Miller and Dak Prescott returning to the lineup the spread has grown to a 10-point one in favor of Dallas. People are expecting and betting on this being a bloodbath for the visiting team.
Matchup History
Aside from the obvious meeting in Super Bowl XII, the Broncos and Cowboys have an interesting history. The Cowboys won five of their first seven meetings from 1973-1995 and then from there it has been all Broncos all the way. Denver has won six straight against the Cowboys dating back to 1998. Does that streak end on Sunday? It very well could.
