The Denver Broncos are back for Day 2 of Training Camp with the quarterback competition already well underway with both off to a good start in camp.
Day 1 of Denver Broncos training camp had the offense with the upper hand over the defense as both Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock looked good throughout the practice session with pundits giving the slight edge to Lock from that first practice.
For Lock, the focus is about honing the physical traits of his right arm with the mental side of being an NFL quarterback.
“I feel like I’m a smarter player now,” Lock said on Wednesday. “I feel like the chances that I do take are more calculated chances rather than when I was a rookie or in that second year. When I press the ball, it’s going to be a safer call. I know better when to check it down, when to get the five yards and when to get the three yards That’s been stressed to me in the building. The gunslinger mentality can still be there, but it has to be a calculated gunslinger.”
If he can translate the short yardage game into a strength for the offense, then it could open things up for him on the intermediate to deep ranges. It’s a tough balance, because defenses will key in on any quarterback who is predictable in any area.
