Kareem Jackson never wants to get got.
Reality as such for the veteran strong safety means he didn’t get you first. And that’s what the 12-year veteran plans to do in his 13th season as he and the Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos eye a Super Bowl run.
Appearing on The Jim Rome Show last week, Jackson broke down his mentality on the field, saying, “My mindset is I’m gonna get you before you get me. That’s the approach and the mindset I have when I’m out there. I just feel like as a defender, it’s not much we can do when it comes to rerouting [our bodies] and putting our hands on receivers after five yards. So, any chance I get to impose my will [I take it].”
Indeed, in the modern era of football, it’s a passing league. Teams turned in the establish-the-run playbooks to establish the pass. 11 personnel usage is up. Fullbacks are extinct. And rules are tailored around home-viewers watching offenses score as many points as possible. Evidenced by the 2020 Philadelphia Eagles led by a career-worst Carson Wentz putting up 29 points on the Pittsburgh Steelers in defeat. The latter was considered one of the best defenses that year.
