The Denver Broncos saw little of tight end Austin Fort through his first two seasons, but of what little they saw intrigued.
The Denver Broncos took a chance on a former quarterback turned tight end when they signed Wyoming’s Austin Fort as an undrafted college free agent in 2019. He didn’t have any eye popping stats in college, but scouts saw something on tape that intrigued them.

The good
Fort has looked good in both training camps and his limited time in game action. Those flashes will continue to make him an interesting guy to keep an eye on when the Broncos take the field for training camp next week.
While I do believe Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam will likely be the 1-2 punch seeing the most game action, Fort is a guy I see who could fill in that third spot on the tight end roster if he remains healthy for the entire season.
The bad
After back to back seasons ending with a knee injury before Week 1, Fort’s NFL career is on the ropes. He is likely still on the roster now despite back-to-back early exits due to injury because he showed so much promise in each of his training camps.
At 26, he’ll need to stay healthy this season and put together a very strong camp to have a shot at extending his NFL career in Denver for another season.
Final thoughts
I like Fort. He is one of those diamonds in the rough that good scouts find for the team to bring in as an undrafted college free agent. I think if injuries hadn’t derailed his first two seasons he might have found himself challenging for playing time as the #2 guy behind Noah Fant. That was then, however. Now he’ll need to fight for a spot behind Fant and Albert O. Whether or not he does will come down to his health.
