Broncos roster review: Offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton

How will Calvin Throckmorton impact the depth of Denver’s offensive line?

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Denver Broncos offensive line remaining intact over the course of an offseason, so it really must be a new era. But even with the starting five staying constant, there is still a much-needed importance for the backups to continue to prove themselves.

Entering his second year with Denver, Calvin Throckmorton will once again have to prove that he deserves a backup spot on this offensive line. After signing with the Broncos in 2024, Throckmorton saw the field for just three snaps, and never in any meaningful situations. This differed from his previous three seasons in the league where he would not only play, but start in a large amount of games.

So, where does he fit in?

Player Profile

Calvin Throckmorton | Broncos | Offensive Line

Height: 6-5

Weight: 311 pounds

Age: 28 years old

Experience: 5th NFL season

2024 stats: Appeared in three games

Broncos OL Calvin Throckmorton’s 2025 Outlook

Throckmorton still sits behind two other backups that would be the first one’s called in if a starter was to go down. But that also depends on how Zach Strief and the Broncos want to handle an injury situation. Matt Peart and Alex Palczewski are better than Throckmorton, but they are also both primarily tackles. If either Ben Powers or Quinn Meinerz go down, the team will have to decide between replacing them with the overall best backup, or with a backup specific to that position.

If I had my choice, I would go with the best backup, especially when needing to replace a guard. It is easier for a tackle to transition to guard than a guard transition to tackle, so I would have more confidence in a guy like Palczewski in this hypothetical situation.

But I think his spot as a second-string offensive lineman is pretty much written in stone.

Final Thoughts

Calvin Throckmorton makes up a strong group of backups for this Broncos offensive line and he is a solid piece to have in that position room. It almost makes me feel a sense of relief to see that the Broncos have someone with starting experience making up the depth of the line.

I hope his name will not have to be called on, but I think he’d be able to do a decent job of filling in the gap if needed.
