How will Ben Powers perform in his third season with the Broncos?
I don’t think it’s unfair to say that the level of play, considering the contract, has been a point of controversy among fans. While Ben Powers has been without a doubt an upgrade over Dalton Risner for the Denver Broncos, his $52 million contract looms large over his head. At times he’s been inconsistent in the run game, with most of his issues coming up with inside zone, with a tendency to get beat inside.
His pass blocking was better this year, likely coming from a heightened level of experience along side Garett Bolles and Luke Wattenberg playing well. And while it was overall better than most guards, he still ranked 96th in sacks given up (three) and 86th in pressures (21).
But I think that Powers has more to offer this team.

Broncos OL Ben Power’s 2025 Outlook
This is a big year for Powers. His last two years with the team have been good, but we’re all looking for a bit more out of him. In Baltimore he was a smashing, physical brute in the run game, similar to how Quinn Meinerz is right now, and we haven’t seen much of that in Denver. There have been glimpses, but nothing consistent. But I think there is a good chance that Powers can take a step forward this year, and that comes down to the simple fact of time.
All linemen play better the longer they’ve been with the same offensive line, same system, and same coach. And I think the most important part of this equation is the coach. Zach Strief has been excellent so far and I will not stop singing his praises. His work with the younger guys, and pairing that with what he’s done with the starting five, has transformed this line into one of the best units in the league. It’s his reign that gives me hope that Powers will continue to improve year over year.
And the improved running back room has the chance to make him look even better as well.
Final Thoughts
Ben Powers is undoubtedly the second-best guard on this team. No one can take his spot as of now, and I don’t think anyone will. I am optimistic that he will be able to live up to his contract, at least more so, this season. He has a crucial role to play up front and I think Powers will come through for the Broncos more often then not, and not by a close margin.
