Denver Broncos’ rookie safety Delarrin Turner-Yell is eager to learn from his veteran counterparts Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson.
Delarrin Turner-Yell joins second-year safety Caden Sterns as a protege of the elder vet safety duo. As a Day 3 pck, the former’s best chance at a roster spot on the Broncos’ Week 1 roster is by displaying depth chart duality by excelling on special teams. Still, Delarrin Turner-Yell is a safety by trade.
Talking to the media last month, Delarrin Turner-Yell said, “I’ve watched Justin Simmons a few times in the past — just studying him on film and how he plays the game of football. I have a huge respect for those guys — as you know, they’re veterans in the league.
“I’m just excited to be able to get to the NFL and be able to take after those guys and learn from them because they [have] seen a lot, and I’m pretty sure they have some things they can share with me [that can translate] to me being able to be successful in the NFL.”
Turner-Yell might not get a lot of playing time on defense as a rookie, but with Jackson set to become a 35-year-old free agent next spring, Turner-Yell should have opportunities to earn more snaps in Year 2 and beyond.
