The Denver Broncos have requested permission to interview New Orleans Saints vice president/assistant general manager of pro personnel Terry Fontenot for their open GM position, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.
Fontenot spent seven years as a scout before being promoted to his current position. He’s been part of a front office that has drafted Marshon Lattimore, Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas, among others.
Fontenot appears to be one of the top GM candidates available. In addition to the Broncos, he has also drawn interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons.
Denver is also seeking permission to interview New England Patriots assistant director of player personnel Dave Ziegler. The Broncos have already received permission to interview Chicago Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly, who might be considered the favorite.
Denver is seeking a new GM after John Elway stepped down from that role Monday. Elway will remain the president of football operations.
